This photo from my Instagram feed perfectly captures life in these early days of living here. Kid mess, moving chaos, my youngest son's 5th birthday in the middle of it all.
You see, this move was messy. We did not move into an empty house like most people. My inlaws have lived in this house, which was previously the manse for the Presbyterian church in our town, for 18 years. We had long planned to buy it from them when they were ready to downsize. That never happened.
The sad truth is that my father-in-law died last fall and my mother-in-law was left on her own in this sprawling Victorian. Not that she needs anyone's pity; she is a very vibrant 70-something lady. But she spends her summers at their PEI cottage and then likes to travel a lot on top of that. So suddenly here we all are, six of us now. Myself, my husband Chris, our three boys and my mother-in-law (part-time), all under this one roof. We sold our house in record time (a story for another day) and sold much of our furniture and are now trying to assimilate our remaining belongings into what was already a rather jam-packed house. Suffice to say Marie Kondo would have a meltdown if she saw this place right now. It's going to be a long process; bear with me.
